Details:

Whether you are building your first AR-15 or past the first build and want to get into the world of customization, one of the most important parts to choose is the barrel. There are many options in the market. However, we are going to talk about one of the best, that is, the Faxon Firearms 16 inch Gunner Profile Barrel, which comes with an Integral Slim 3-Port Brake.

The Best of Both Worlds

Carrying on the legacy of the ARAK-21, this barrel also aims to get the best features of the two worlds. It has a Gunner Profile, which is a combination of a pencil profile and a Govt/SOCOM profile. The barrel is tapered at the front and heavier at the back, where the bullet is chambered. The gunner barrel retails the maneuverability of a pencil barrel while helping with heat dissipation like a Govt profile barrel. So, if you are at a competition or just shooting for fun, the lighter end of the barrel will make your rifle easier to maneuver.

Moreover, since the barrel is thicker in the back, it keeps the weight of the barrel closer to the center of the rifle, making it more stable as well. Overall, the weight difference between a SOCOM profile and a gunner profile is not going to be as significant as that of a Pencil barrel. Still, since the weight is distributed better, it makes the gun feel better.

Superior Accuracy

This barrel has a 1:8 twist rifling, which greatly stabilizes different types of ammunition. However, to make the barrel even better for accuracy, it has an 11-degree target crown, which means that the bore is slightly recessed and allows the bullet to be ‘released’ evenly around its entire circumference. So, this barrel can give you better range and accuracy, depending on the type of rounds you use.

A Barrel That Is Built To Last

Though SOCOM profile barrels are better for durability under sustained fire, in a civilian AR-15, which is going to shoot semi-automatic, this gunner profile barrel will last a long time. It is made from 4150 CMV steel and has a nitride finish, both on the exterior and inside the barrel. This keeps the barrel safe from rust and corrosion and significantly increases its lifetime.

Smooth Shooting

Apart from the profile of this barrel, another feature that makes it smooth and easy to shoot is the mid-length gas system. You want a mid-length gas system because it is significantly more comfortable and reliable as well compared to a rifle length of carbine length gas system. All of this combined with the integral 3-port barrel in the front, makes for an accurate, smooth shooting, and super maneuverable barrel.
