Very different ...
I thought I wanted one of these for a while, and finally ordered one. It was easy to install, and seems to perform adequately at the task for which it was created, and I had used 'button' safeties on shotguns and .22 rifles for decades with no problems. But ... for someone like myself who has been shooting M-16s and AR-15s for .. yeah, damn near 50 years .... it is just too 'different'. It functioned well, and I have no doubt it is more than up to the task, but using it was just so much different than when using a push-type safety button on a shotgun, or a .22 rifle; when I have an AR in my hands, my mind goes to the 'manual of arms' I've used for decades, and therefore automatically to the 'selector lever' style safety control; my muscle memory is so molded to that style on an AR type rifle, I just had trouble using this safety. Not knocking the safety at all. It's obviously high quality, and well made. My rating, though, is based on my own overall experience with this item, and just pointing out that the difference between this, and what I'm accustomed to using on AR style style rifles, is huge. After a couple of range trips, I have removed it and replaced it with a standard safety selector. Could I have kept it and just forced myself to learn to use it? Yep, probably .. but then what does that do to my muscle memory for my other ARs? To me, the cons outweigh the pros. If you truly want one then order it .. they're great quality. But for us old dogs, at least this old dog, I just had too much 'thinking' to do .... and in my mind, a safety is NOT something I need to "think" about when the time comes to use it. On another topic, Wing Tactical has been a great company to deal with and they get my full 5 star rating. Shipping and customer service have been outstanding. I will keep ordering from them for sure. Just not something as radically different as this particular item.
