The Breek Arms Sledgehammer AR-10 Gas Buster Charging Handle is designed to address one of the more annoying parts of shooting suppressed: excess gas coming back toward your face.
Breek Arms uses several gas-management features throughout the charging handle, not just a raised lip at the rear. The Sledgehammer is designed to block, slow, and redirect gas as it travels rearward through the upper receiver.
This version is made for DPMS-pattern AR-10 / LR-308 rifles.
More Than Just a Raised Gas Shelf
The Sledgehammer AR-10 Charging Handle has a taller rear shelf to help keep escaping gas from reaching the shooter's face. There's also a keyway cutout designed to prevent gas from flowing over that shelf.
Inside the charging handle stem, Breek Arms incorporates patented internal baffling. These internal features create turbulence and slow gas expansion before it reaches the rear of the receiver.
A back-pressure port and aggressive relief cuts along the top and bottom provide additional paths for gas to escape away from the shooter.
It's a fairly involved design for a part that otherwise looks like a conventional charging handle.
Wide, Serrated Latches
The Sledgehammer measures 2.59 inches across the latches, providing a generous gripping area on both sides.
The latches have pronounced serrations rather than smooth surfaces, making them easier to catch with wet hands or gloves. The wider layout is also useful on rifles equipped with larger optics that can make smaller charging handles awkward to reach.
7075-T6 Aluminum Construction
Breek Arms machines the Sledgehammer from 7075-T6 aluminum and finishes it with Type III hard-coat anodizing.
Despite its wide latches and internal gas-management features, the charging handle weighs just 1.4 oz.

For suppressed .308 builds, the main attraction is the gas-management design. The wide ambidextrous latches and lightweight 7075-T6 construction are useful additions, but the multiple gas-blocking and venting features are what distinguish the Sledgehammer from a standard AR-10 charging handle.
