Sling Mounts

QD sling mounts are highly reliable and are now standard equipment for most military forces worldwide. In spite of how important and useful they are, sling mounts are actually very rudimentary technology and they remain one of the simplest (and cheapest) upgrades for your gun. An AR-15 with a quick detach sling mount is much easier to carry than an AR without one, and the sling also makes switching to your secondary firearm easier.

Before you can add a sling to your firearm, you’ll need two sling mounts: small parts that attach to your firearm and provide a place for a sling to clip into safely. Sling mounts are simple to install and are generally inexpensive, making them an excellent upgrade for all kinds of shooters.

Slings

Once your sling mounts are installed, it’s time to pick up a sling. Look for products made from quality fibers featuring durable hardware — and, if you’re in a hunting context, look for a sling that blends into your camo shade.

Sling Setup Types

There are, in essence, only three standard sling setups, though many shooters like to experiment and often come up with new ideas.

There’s the traditional, two-point setup, which is by far the most widespread and allows the shooter to carry the firearm on their back, as well as in front of them.

The three-point sling setup effectively straps the gun to the shooter’s chest and allows a hands-free approach, as you don’t have to keep the gun in your hands at all times. Nevertheless, for safety reasons, one hand should be on the gun at all times.

There’s also the single-point setup, which is fairly flexible and allows the shooter to quickly pull their weapon into a stance. However, a lot of people don’t like it because the gun hangs, and that can feel uncomfortable for some people.
