Details:
Most recoil springs use a single coil pitch from end to end. The Spike’s Tactical VPRS-15 (Variable Pitch Recoil Spring) doesn’t. Its coils are wound with a changing pitch that “cushions” the initial impact, then progressively slows the carrier as it travels rearward. On the rifle, that spreads the load across the entire stroke, softening the impulse and helping prevent the bolt from hammering the back of the tube. The payoff is a calmer return, cleaner follow-ups, and fewer hiccups when you start pushing the pace.
Progressive Coils, Smoother Cycle
The variable-pitch geometry spreads spring force over a wider range of motion, so tension changes more evenly as the action cycles. In practical terms, you feel a softer push, a more predictable return to battery, and noticeably less spring “twang” in the receiver extension. Gas systems stay happier, the dot settles quicker, and the rifle feels less frantic shot to shot.
One Spring for Mixed-Caliber Carbines
Swapping uppers or calibers? The VPRS-15 plays well beyond 5.56. It’s right at home in carbine-length receiver extensions on standard AR-15 builds, and it also runs confidently in 9mm blowback PCCs and .300 BLK setups—exactly where carrier speed can get spicy. Instead of chasing different spring rates, drop this in and get consistent, predictable behavior across hosts.
Why It Belongs in Your AR
With a progressive-pitch design that tames the stroke and broad compatibility across real AR-15 carbines, the VPRS-15 turns “just a spring” into an upgrade you can feel at the shoulder—less slam, more control, and a smoother cycle, no gas-system gymnastics required.
