Details:

The upper receiver is a deciding factor in AR 15 reliability, so you should always get one from a company you can depend on such as Spike's Tactical. When you want a machined billet upper AR-15 receiver you want a product that's more than simply a cosmetic improvement over the lower priced forged option. When you choose to go with a Spikes Tactical billet upper you're going for one of the most sought after upper receivers on the market. Certainly, if you want your AR-15 to run at its peak efficiency, then the only real choice is a Spikes billet upper. The Spikes Tactical billet upper is made to be a perfect match for their billet lower receiver. Although, it will work fine with any standard Mil-Spec forged lower around.

Why Choose This Spikes Billet Upper

This Spikes Tactical Billet Upper is in a class of its own; it has several unique features that improve performance and ergonomics. They are cut from a solid billet of 7075 aluminum, one of the toughest varieties available. This choice of material goes a long way towards preventing flex. Instead of machining the M4 feed ramps later in the process, Spike's Tactical cuts them before the anodizing to improve reliability. The Type-III hardcoat anodize defends the entire surface from corrosion and minimizes wear. Unintentional bolt releases are prevented by the raised side walls on the exterior.

If you like just a little bling, then you will appreciate the fact that they proudly engraved the Spikes billet upper with their company name and logo. When other shooters catch an eyeful they will know the quality that you demand in your rifle. To make sure that you have all of your options available, they enlarged the bolt catch cut out area. Therefore, your new Spikes billet upper will work with the popular Magpul BAD lever as well as most aftermarket bolt release levers.

The Spikes Tactical Billet Upper Play Well with Others

In keeping things simple the Spikes billet upper will accept any standard Mil-Spec barrel nut. That way you don't have to order any crazy special hardware to bolt things together. Most after-market handguards are compatible with this receiver. Another thoughtful touch is the way they secure the forward assist. Instead of the normal roll pin, Spikes uses a set screw. It's simply a superior design. The dust cover even come pre-installed for your convenience!

Right out of the box, popped open the dust cover and can't get it closed. The detent / springed pin doesn't match up with the receiver. Disappointing quality control for the price point!

Ok let me start of that after receiving the Spikes Upper. It’s well made and notice it has the American flag in front of the Spikes Tactical lettering. Didn’t see that in picture website. I don’t mind the flag at all. Ok the only reason I gave it a 4 and not a 5 star is because I put it on the Sharps Bros jack gen 2 lower and fit way to snug. Didn’t mind that at all but where I did mind was the front takedown pin had to move around upper and lower around to make pin lock in. The rear takedown pin is where the problem was. The pin didn’t want to lock in. Wouldn’t even go in half way. After several tries. I then got spikes upper and tried to install it on two other lowers I had built and function. Both of them the pin wouldn’t go in. So now I know that it’s not the lower causing the issue but the spikes upper. After closer inspection notice the rear takedown pin holes where lined up right. That’s why rear pin wouldn’t go thru. So I actually got a dremel bit and sand the upper pin hole a bit to make pin go all the way in. Finally got pin to go thru all they in. But still was too snug that I had to use a tool to push pin back out. So I dremel the hole a bit bigger and got it where I can push pin out with my fingers. Also still snug enough where there was no rather or slight movement between the upper or lower at all. After that procedure the spikes upper fit well on my other lowers as well. So for that reason I have it a 4 out of 5 stars. Took a bit of customization with proper tools to get it to fit right.
