Heavy Hitter

The Spikes Tactical 300 blackout barrel isn’t some whiplike wand to wave around. To reap the full reward of this versatile cartridge, you need a grown-up 300 blackout barrel 16 inch version. This barrel length is essential to develop the full velocity and accuracy the 300 blackout can deliver. The Spikes Tactical 300 blackout barrel is endowed with a 1/7 rate of twist to stabilize the heavier bullets available. They profiled your Spikes 300 blackout barrel 16 inch long to manage the harmonics that this round creates. You need the right barrel on your AR if you want to enjoy its full potential.

This combination means you get what you expect, the best. To make function meet reliability, Spikes went with a chrome lining for this 300 blackout barrel. Not only is this design easy to clean, but it’s corrosion-resistant as well. Spikes stays true to the industry standard when it comes to the gas-block seat and muzzle threads. Therefore, the gas-block and muzzle device you already have will likely fit. Get Spikes quality and let your 300 ring.

Been working with John D at Spikes directly to resolve failure to cycle issue with this barrel. As the barrels arrive from FN they have a .063" gas port and then are drilled out by Spikes to something above .080". I also had some chambering issues with stuck cartridges. I have a new barrel that Spikes is sending directly to me and has been hand checked for gas port, head space and ammo fit. I suspect that Spikes may have reamed out my new barrel chamber a bit too. Once it arrives I will report back. In the meantime if you bought one of these barrels recently you most likely will need to check the gas port size. The 300BLK is a quirky journey to begin with and I decided to give 5 stars for this barrel. I'm happy to have Spikes working with me on this issue and am certain their barrels will only improve with these efforts.

I previously gave this a 1 star rating because the gas port was .0625”, which the manufacturer confirmed should be drilled to costumer specifications (if mainly shooting supers, .088 for suppressed and .093 nonsuppressed) prior to shipment. This does not warrant a 1 star rating because it’s actually a flawless piece. Just beware that you will need to drill out your gas port to tune your build
