After reassembling or modifying internal parts of your rifle, you should always cycle some rounds through to ensure proper functioning. If you are not comfortable doing this with live rounds, get yourself some of these 5.56x45 Polymer Dummy Rounds from Magpul.

You can safely load these into your 5.56 NATO or .223 Rem. rifle, and they will cycle exactly like real ammunition! These are very useful for gunsmiths and armorers who must perform function checks on a regular basis. Firearm instructors will also find them handy when teaching students how to load a magazine and chamber rounds. You could even mix them in with your live ammunition at the range to practice failure-to-fire drills. The solid black color and Magpul's name engraved on the side make it easy to distinguish these from live rounds.

Get some of these training rounds today if you want to improve your function check procedure, safely train beginners, or practice your failure drills!

With these I don't have to worry about "accidently" shooting the crazy lady that lives next door.

I was originally going to get the Snap-Caps in .223, but these were far cheaper and came in a pack of 5 compared to the pack of 2 for the Snap-Caps. I will say this. If you want to practice a lot dry firing, but are a little self conscious about your firing pin then these are the dummy rounds you want. The fact that their polymer will also not scrap metal shavings within your chamber. I even done double-feed malfunction drills with it and nothing getting inside the barrel or chamber. The tips do get a bit marred, but that's a given in my case of doing a malfunction drill that simulates a double feed. It ejects clear like any other .223/5.56 round and feeds into any mag I have. STANAG mags, P-Mags, MFT polymer mags, those cheapo Pro-Mags, Lancer 5 mags, and my favorites the Hexmags. Feeds flawlessly. I recommend them to anyone looking for a budget friendly solution to practicing with you rifle if you happen to want to practice during those rainy days or something. That or you're like me that just like some insurance that you can drop your bolt on an empty chamber and let that firing pin hit.
