Details:

Mil-spec safety selectors and many of their “upgrade” counterparts are less than ideal for many operators. For those of us who want a more responsive, easier to use safety selector there are a few choices on the market that will do the job. The 45-degree safety selector has become a very popular drop-in upgrade on the tactical arms market, and Ambidextrous selectors are also increasing in popularity. The Armaspec ST45 is one of our favorite options in the Ambi safety selector category.

Satin Smooth Movement, Crisp Lockup

The Armaspec ST45 operates exactly as you want it to. Its easy to reach levers and smooth movement makes position selection a natural, fluid movement for the operator while it locks up cleanly, leaving you no doubt about your safety status.

Armaspec ST-45: 45-Degree Design

Armaspec didn’t just make an adjustment to an old selector and call it good. The Armaspec ST45 is designed specifically to work with receivers marked for 45-degree fire selection. The intent in design assures you that this safety selector works as intended every time, no guesswork involved.

Easy Installation, Ambidextrous Operation

The Armaspec 45 Degree short throw Ambidextrous 45 Degree Safety Selector is easy to install in place of your factory safety selector. It features a steel core that marries to aluminum levers with Torx screws. Armaspec even includes the proper sized Torx key to get you from your mailbox to the range that much faster. Once installed, the ST45 operates easily from either side of the receiver for intuitive use in the field by a variety of shooters in variable circumstances.

I've been trouble shooting this thing being mushy and loose for months with no luck. I finally gave up and took it out to evaluate it more closely and realized: it has no "detent" cuts at all inside. Replaced with an old milspec I took out and it's snappy and comfortable again. In another lower I have a BCM ambi 90* I'd recommend that over this one every single day.

Pass on this for a better manufacturer with higher QC.

My initial impression after installation was that I hated the Armaspec ST45 Safety — it felt gritty and engagement and disengagement was not at all positive.

After a little bit of head scratching I decided to add a drop of CLP onto the outside of the receiver where the selector axle goes through it. I should have oiled the axle during the installation, but I wasn’t going to take everything apart again since I had already applied Loctite to the lever and pistol grip screws.

Bingo! Operation is now smooth and positive, and the 45 degree throw is both easier and quicker than the standard 90 degree throw.

The levers are also not completely flush with my receiver, but as was already noted, the detent will keep the selector axle from moving sideways.

I'm using it in the 45 degree configuration and I really like it. I tend to get my hand too high on the grip and ambi selectors dig into my hands at 90 degrees but not as much at 45. I'm left handed so I put the long switch on the ejection side and short one on the left side, the screws seem to be good quality so I don't expect them to strip out like many other selectors I've used, and it included the hex key. It does NOT include the spring or selector detent so buy those as well if you're getting this for a new build; if you're replacing an existing rifle's selector then you'll be fine. I would like armaspec to offer an option for two short levers but definitely recommend it.

Ordered this in red over a year ago and it is perfect. The short throw makes it very easy to engage and disengage the safety. It works really well with tactical gloves as well. I like the 45 degree angle more than the 90 because with a 90 degree selector I feel that they just get in my way and are harder to engage. The anodizing is perfect and hasnt scratched yet. Saw another review that says that theirs isnt flush, however mine is flush and work perfect with my drop in single stage trigger. It will not fire under any circumstances when the safety is engaged. Highly recommend

Finish and fit is good. Screws remained secured after shooting about 300rds. However upon initial install, the product leaves a slight gap between the levers and the receiver (not flush). idk if that was intentional. However when the detent is installed, the selector no longer walks between my lower. My main concern is when the selector isnt fully seated in the "safe" position (meaning anything outside of dentent snap assist range)my rifle can still fire. However, Im not sure if its because of the dropin trigger, design flaw, or just the nature of 45 selectors (first time usage, too lazy to investigate rn). I just tell whoever uses my rifle to be sure the safety lever touches the stop in safe position. If this concerns you, stick with a normal 90 degree.

Would highly recommend. Have used BAD and Seekins on previous builds. First time using Armaspec and so far it is every bit as good as those two brands. Love that it is a true 45 degrees, and works! The levers are also nicely shaped. Quality of the fit and finish is top notch.

  • Can't beat this safety, especially for the price!

I've used BAD, Radian, SI, and probably several other 45* safeties, and without a doubt this one from Armaspec is the equal of any and better than most. The detents are very clean and precise and the the lever locks solidly into position with almost no play. There doesn't seem to be any other types of levers available, but what more do you really need then the long/short combo? For the price you just can't beat this safety.
